Founded in 1986 to fund a free-standing Cancer Clinic, the Regional Community Health Foundation (formerly the Regional Medical Center Foundation) is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)(3) dedicated to improving the health and quality of life of our community. Guided by a volunteer Board of Trustees, the Foundation raises philanthropic support to assist MUSC Health Orangeburg patients in financial or medical need, provide resources for hospital staff, and offer scholarships to future healthcare professionals.
The Foundation manages nine funds and three scholarship programs, supporting needs such as medication assistance, diabetic supplies, cancer treatment transportation, meals, education materials, and staff development. Contributions also enhance hospital equipment, software, and employee morale. Through generosity and community commitment, the Regional Community Health Foundation continues to make a tangible difference in the lives of patients, employees, and families across the region.
Charlie Williams of The Williams Firm, a native of Orangeburg, has been a dedicated member of the Regional Community Health Foundation Board for many years. His service includes serving as Board Chairman in 2020–2021 and joining his wife, Blake, as a Foundation Host for “A Sterling Affair,” the 25th Anniversary Annual Gala.
After losing his mother, Karen, in 2013 to complications from early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, Charlie became a passionate advocate for raising awareness and support for those affected by the illness. The Williams family helped establish the RCH Foundation Karen J. Williams Alzheimer’s Fund in 2015.
“Our family is grateful to the RCH Foundation for providing assistance to patients and families throughout Bamberg, Calhoun, and Orangeburg counties who are currently battling Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia in my mother’s memory. She was a special woman and loved our community, and I can’t think of a better way to honor her,” Charlie said.
